So, I have been known to lean towards the glamorous & sophisticated in most everything I swoon – I also like to get my craft on! A little DIY bring’s creativity, whimsy & juxtaposition to an otherwise decadent tablescape on today’s ES.
For my Harpers Bazaar holiday tabletop I was working in a saturated black on black palette in addition to the lux quality of brass flatware. I desired a touch of warmth - a natural element while also seeking a unique place card concept. Well, two separate needs resulted in one clever idea! Wooden spoons clad with chalkboard board paint, giving me the ability to write guests names directly onto the spoons – the exact fusion I was looking for! A playful spin on a utilitarian cooking tool gets transformed into a swoon-worthy DIY.
I just love bringing something hand made into focus with a personalized element. The best part? these spoons can be used and reused a multitude of times with a simple wipe and re-write of the chalk. Clever, beautiful and sustainable – doesn’t get swoonier than that! Photography by Chloe Crespi
