5 swoon worthy things: Eva Fehren

Eva Fehren

Eva Fehren is an artist, first and foremost.  She is also a dear friend and I, an avid fan. It is her artful eye and hyper attention to craftsmanship that defines her style and ultimately what informed her geometric-inspired fine jewelry line, Eva Fehren, with business partner Ann Gorga. Among other things, Eva is endlessly obsessed with diamonds…and cement and crossing power lines and Sharpies. How’s that for mixing grit and glamour? This juxtaposition is evident in every piece the native New Yorker creates.

Eva’s designs are bold and feminine at once. They are iconic, irreverent, and honestly, just plain cool. I swoon each time I step inside her monochromatic showroom. Every detail, including her artwork cladding the walls, is perfectly curated with minimalist restraint in black and white and Xs all over. In the midst of New York Fashion Week, we thought it only fitting to have Eva share a little about herself and the items she’s currently lusting over.

NAME: Eva Fehren

PROFESSION: Jewelry designer and artist

HOME BASE: The best city in the world…New York

ENDLESSLY OBSESSED WITH: Xs, New York City, “ruin porn”, geometry, diamonds, marble, cement, Sharpies, paper, black, white, and grey…

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Strong, graphic, classic minimalism with an irreverent streak. I’m drawn to exploring shapes and motifs that feel timeless, pure and effortlessly cool. I only create things that I would want to wear.

YOUR AESTHETIC IN 3 WORDS: Minimal. High-contrast. Graphic.

BRIEFLY, HOW YOU CAME TO DO WHAT YOU DO: I studied painting at Cooper Union in NYC. Painting and drawing are a huge part of who I am, and I have always felt passionate about making things. Jewelry felt like a natural extension of my creativity. I worked in the jewelry industry for many years trying to learn as much as I could, and eventually designed the X ring while I was at a painting residency. Once I had perfected the X ring, I was inspired to develop an entire collection and launch my own brand.

  1. Serge Mouille Ceiling Lamp: “Sexiest lamp on Earth.”

  2. Eva Fehren Tabletop Mirror: “This mirror is created to highlight one of our classic shapes in the collection, which I call the ‘Hero’. I love the idea of the motifs I use in my jewelry extending into furniture and home design. I’m planning on scaling it up for my wall at home.”

  3. Ligne Roset Vintage Black Leather Togo Sofa: “I love a whitewashed space with black furniture in it. This sofa has an appeal, it gets better with age, and it’s so comfortable!”

  4. Paolo Piva for B&B Italia Alanda Coffee Table: “This table has been at the TOP of my must-have-fetish-object-would-sell-an-organ-for-furniture soul-mate list. One of my greatest achievements in life is that I found one for our showroom for a steal on eBay and had it bussed here on Greyhound. I would go to the ends of the earth for this table and am currently hunting down the perfect one for my apartment.”

  5. Fernando Mastrangelo Console: “Fernando’s work is flawless. I love the high contrast between the cement and black silica. This console has a perfect balance of timeless and tough qualities. His work blurs the lines between design and art.”
