5 swoon worthy things: Gift Guide: The Foodie
Gift Guide: The Foodie
With the mantra “Food. Design. Community.”, Founder Karen Mordechai’s communal cooking space Sunday Suppers has a spirit that’s easy for any foodie to rally behind. And rally, we do.
But it doesn’t end there. Aside from heading up her streamlined, 1500-square-foot Brooklyn-based studio, Karen is also the author of the popular Sunday Suppers: Recipes + Gatherings cookbook and recently launched ILĀ, a line of carefully-sourced — and swooningly-packaged — pantry essentials.
So if you’re gift-hunting for gourmands, you’re absolutely in luck. Today Karen lets us in on her picks for fellow foodies, the culinary trend she’s obsessing (we concur!) and even the ingredients you’ll never, ever see in her home.

NAME: Karen Mordechai
HOME BASE: Brooklyn, NY
ADVICE ON GIFTS FOR FOODIES: Avoid the trap of getting the trendiest item of the moment. Give something you, yourself would use in your kitchen, a classic that will last over time.
ENDLESSLY OBSESSED WITH: Japanese and Danish ceramics. There’s something so beautiful about the simplicity and clean aesthetic of their design.
FOOD PHILOSOPHY: I find cooking simply and with the seasons enables you to highlight what’s best and most flavorful at that time of year. I try to buy the freshest and most vibrant ingredients I find at the Farmer’s Market.
FOOD TREND YOU LOVE: Avocado toast. I can’t help but love it — it’s a classic for a reason and a work lunch staple in the Sunday Suppers studio.
COLOR OR NEUTRAL: Neutral, always.
YOU’LL NEVER SEE margarine or artificial sweetener IN MY HOME.
