  • Rose Bakery + Dover Street market

I mean…art meets fashion, meets food, meets baking…HOLY Swoon Swoon Swoony!  This place was made for me. After baking with pastry Chef Matthew Lodes at Rose Bakery I indulged in some pure girly time with my friends Chelsea Leyland and Lily Kwong. Together we shared a swoony afternoon brunch, punctuated with mimosas, before perusing the serious fashion at DSM.

    Food + Fashion

The bakery serves breakfast and lunch sourcing the best organic and biodynamic ingredients in an open kitchen on the ground floor of DSM. Rose Bakery has a playful, artistic and whimsical vibe that is juxtaposed against a sleek stainless steel kitchen, plus the dining room connects to the market and the visual fashion installation, which more than adds to the overall experience. It’s a swoony spot for the fashion elite to indulge in a little sweet or savory – or if you’re like us, in both!

    An indulgent girly day

One stop shopping in a food and fashion menagerie…Who could dream up a better afternoon spent with your ladies? We swooned over the creamiest eggs and salmon coupled with asparagus and ricotta toast and a perfectly classic French quiche. The ever-famous assiette de legumes was the swooniest of them all, a healthy gathering of four or five veggie salads (that changes daily) assembled in a bowl. Seriously addicting.

    Rose at home

All of the dishware, cutlery and vessels are custom to Rose Bakery and can be purchased in their mini-market along with their two brilliant cookbooks.

    • HOW OFTEN DO YOU DEVELOP NEW RECIPES?  DOES THE MENU CHANGE DAILY?

We continually develop new recipes within the ethos of Rose and Jean Charles. The menu changes daily but with a core structure in the menu. For instance, we always have quiche and the “Assiette des Legumes” but the ingredients change daily.

CAN YOU SPEAK ABOUT THE FAMOUS ROSE BAKERY ASSIETTE?

The Assiette des Legumes is amazing. It’s literally a plate of vegetables.  Everyday we have 5 different vegetable salads on it. It changes daily aside from the fact there is always a carrot salad. We use whatever is seasonal and fresh.

      LAST LIFE-CHANGING, SWOON-WORTHY FOOD EXPERIENCE?

The life changing food experience has to be grilled shrimp with garlic at Goiz Argi in San Sebastián. I know it’s sounds simple but it’s probably the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten.

MOST IMPORTANT FLAVOR BUILDING INGREDIENT OR COMBO?

      SALT – it changes everything

YOUR FAVORITE DISH HERE AT ROSE BAKERY? MOST POPULAR?

My favourite dish is the “Assiette”. It’s always changing and it’s so fresh. It’s also our most popular dish.

FIVE INGREDIENTS YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

Chocolate, hazelnuts, mustard, black pepper and champagne. I know the last one really isn’t an ingredient but it’s important when I’m cooking.

CLASSIC NYC RESTAURANT THAT MAKES YOU SWOON?

My swoon worthy restaurant will always be Le Bernardin.

THE 5 LOCAL GO-TO RESTAURANTS OR CAFES YOU FREQUENT IN NYC?

My 5 go-to restaurants are Donostia, Huertas, Katz’s Deli, Habana Outpost, and Ganso.

FAVORITE CITY FOR FOOD OUTSIDE OF NYC?

San Sebastián is far and away the greatest food city in the world.

      FOOD TREND YOU PARTAKE IN?

Organic ingredients is definitely a food trend that I partake in and it’s one I hope never goes away.
