The Local Rose Shiva
September 4, 2013
Who doesn’t love growth? To change, expand, evolve, create, be inspired, feel pride, and hold awareness of our earth while doing so? EyeSwoon has carried me through all of the above! I have had the opportunity to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of, find my truth, and meet insanely creative like-minded creatures that raise me to a higher place….women that show me how to be better – a more conscious mom, an adventurous cook, a risk taker, a gal who has grown acutely aware of what she puts into her body, and how to respect our Mother…Mother Earth that is.
Shiva Rose of The Local Rose is far and beyond one of these women. Through The Local Rose she is schooling us all – educating us on how to live a holistic life surrounding beauty, fashion, cooking, spirituality and nesting. And she does this through example – living a whole lifestyle way before she even knew there was a name for it! Her only goal? Wanting the best for our planet.
I can remember seeing Shiva from afar at an event years ago and being instantly smitten by her beauty. It wasn’t until just a few short months ago that we actually had the opportunity to meet. The universe was certainly vying for this meeting of the minds as a handful of my closest girlfriends kept mentioning Shiva – assuming we knew one another and making email intros. It was certainly coming at us in all directions and our meeting finally took place around the table (it’s always around the table isn’t it?!) in California at Axe, one of Shiva’s favorite local jaunts! We only had the opportunity to chat for 10 minutes but both swooned and sent an intention to swoon further!
Shiva came to stay with me in Amagansett not long ago and we finally had that opportunity. We chatted about our many similarities from creating a blog later in life – hence finding our voice through topics we are insanely passionate about – to being a mom, a background in acting, and a love of food & cooking. I soaked up all the knowledge I could from this very inspiring woman who lives life with integrity and grace. Shiva, who was raised in Iran and escaped as a refugee, grows all of her own organic fruits & veggies and raises chickens on her farm!
Cooking Persian food was a first for me but certainly not a last….as I learned and cooked with flavors that were completely foreign to me we connected and shared about our full lives all the while remaining focused yet relaxed and giggly. Next on the horizon for Shiva….a Rose serum oil. Next on the horizon for Athena….a home garden inspired by Shiva!
