Successful design is always about balance — it is a conversation between form, texture and materiality. For example, when I chose a more elevated material like this Calacutta Monet marble in my Amagansett kitchen, I specifically sought a more humble, woven material, like rattan to pair down the stone. I love the handmade craftsmanship and tactility that bamboo and rattan offer a space as seen here in my lamp shade and the Spanish 70’s counter stools. Finally, with so many hard, angular lines, I found it essential to introduce some soft curves — the round knob hardware and round ceiling mount lights were integrated intentionally.
