GARDEN PARTY_main2I hope to always remain grounded and humble in every aspect of my life, but specifically in regards to EyeSwoon. I never want to lose those bursting, exciting moments of surprise like when someone tells me that they’re swooned by EyeSwoon. At those times I’m truly touched!

And when someone whom I am totally swooned by, like the ever-talented fashion and lifestyle maven Jenni Kayne, whose site Rip + Tan has inspired me on countless occasions – not only knows of EyeSwoon but invites me to LA to co-host a garden party, I am blown away.

The exchange of inspiration and ideas, the meeting of new friends, particularly other creative women who appreciate the same things I do— cooking, styling, creating beauty in general—fills me with gratitude and joy.

I arrived in LA last week on a 6am flight and went directly to the home of Shiva Rose, who offered up the stunning space for our garden party. I was welcomed by both the most breathtaking light streaming into the kitchen and the stunning, literally glowing, Barrett Prendergast of Valleybrink Road.

Though I was exhausted by my travels, my weary eyes popped open as I observed Barrett prepping our meal with a serenity that immediately penetrated my being; all I could think about was how I wanted to jump into the kitchen with her. I honestly don’t know what to do with myself when someone else is in the kitchen! Barrett created the most incredible meal for our ladies lunch: a farmers market salad, couscous with grilled plums and spinach, summer fruits punctuated with mint, and avocado toast with watermelon radish, which—praise you, Barrett—she allowed me to help prep.

The food was beyond swoon-worthy…fresh, vibrant, simply delicious.  Luckily, she shared the recipes here. Stay tuned for a follow up post on Friday, of the actual garden party…the guests, flowers, table design with a little help from One Kings Lane, and the coming together of one the most beautiful, lush garden parties I have ever encountered!
