Limited Edition Maple Butcher Block

$650

*Please allow 2-3 weeks production for this made to order item.

A sculptural kitchen essential in solid, end-grain sugar maple creates an enticing cutting surface replete with non-marring rubber feet for anti-slip grip. Designed in collaboration by Black Creek Mercantile & Trading Co. and Athena Calderone, the butcher block is sustainably sourced in domestic hardwood featuring food-safe, non-toxic finishes. Each piece bears a natural character that will lend itself to generations of use. Composed of bleached Maple, the board’s materiality is selected for its natural propensity for developing a distinctive wear pattern and “patina” with time. Athena’s personal board is featured often throughout EyeSwoon. While each edition will age beautifully in a style all its own, Athena’s bleached maple has taken on a honeyed, wheat-toned hue developed from persistent oiling over 5+ years of use.

Dimensions: 15” x 20” x 2.5”
Materials: Maple
Handmade to order in Kingston, New York.

Material and Finish: Bleached maple end grain, hand-rubbed non-toxic linseed oil finish. Wood is a natural material and there may be imperfections and variations in every block.

Cleaning: There are a few things to keep in mind when caring for your wood cutting boards and wooden
kitchen implements. The first key to maintaining wooden kitchen items is cleanliness. Use hot water and soap
in the sink. It is that simple. Never use chemicals such as bleach or ammonia on your wooden kitchenware.

Oiling: Oil is essential in maintaining your wood cutting boards and wood kitchen implements. Oiling helps
keep the wood boards and other wood items from drying out and cracking, and, over time constant oiling will
give these items a healthy sheen and a workable protective coating. This coating allows the wood to be
washed with soap on a regular basis. Think of oiling as a protective moisturizing step for your wood. We
recommend applying a liberal amount of cutting board oil to dry wood with either a brush or clean cloth.
Allow the oil to absorb into the wood (we usually let it sit overnight). Wipe off any excess oil with a clean, dry
cloth or a paper towel. Clean up with soap and water on a cloth or paper towel. After approximately three applications of cutting board oil, you should notice that your board will become much more resilient to normal use, and require less frequent oiling.

This is a one-of-a-kind item and therefore each one is unique. Variations in color, texture, size, and shape should be expected.
