  • Ingredients

    • Mulled Wine
      • 3 cups water
      • 3 cups sugar
      • Fresh ginger root (sliced)
      • Peel and juice of 1 large orange
      • 3 pieces star anise 
      • 2  tablespoons whole cloves
      • 4 to 5 sticks of cinnamon
      • Peel of 1 lemon 
      • 1 cup raisins
      • 1 cup almond slivers
      • 2 cups dark rum (or other spirit of your choice)  
  • The Prep

    • Mulled Wine
      Combine all in a pot and bring to a gentle simmer. Simmer and reduce to about 1/2 volume.

      Put aside. This can be left in the pot overnight or used right away. Strain before using.
      Soak raisins overnight in the rum.
      To finish, add 1 bottle of red wine to a sauce pot. Add raisins, almonds and extract to taste. Additional rum can be added to make it stronger.
