It’s true… EyeSwoon’s love affair with neutrals runs deep but that doesn’t mean we shy away from color either. Let’s just say our choices are more considered. Take Athena’s family room for example. While the initial vision was in line with the neutral tonality of her Brooklyn home, something wasn’t working. She craved a comfortable, cozy space to slouch into and watch movies or read as a family. To achieve that mood, she completely enveloped the walls and ceiling in a deeply saturated navy plaster complete with a jewel-toned terracotta fringed chair and velvet ochre ottoman. When color calls, you have to let your instincts guide the way, and you’ll never be led astray. But bold color statements like this are typically few and far between. For the most part, we’re drawn to muted sun-washed hues or tones found in nature which is exactly what the four summer color trends for 2022 have in common.
We predicted at the top of the year that neutrals would take a back seat in 2022 as people start to experiment with color again, but that the palette would stay very close to hues you’d find in nature. And we were right! This season we’re seeing four prominent colors—burnt terracotta, golden ochre, earthy green, and pink clay—emerge in home décor and interior design. We’re even seeing paint rollers dipped in the terrain-inspired tones to create monochromatic moments that envelop you in its coziness. Who wouldn’t want a room that feels like a warm hug?
