The Vence Sconce is one of two limited-edition pieces designed by Athena Calderone and Simone Bodmer-Turner. Inspired by shells often found in old European churches, the piece is a decorative ode to the holy water basins at Chapelle du Rosarie—a small church in the hillside north of Nice that was the iconic artist Henri Matisse’s final project for his nurse, caretaker, and muse Sister Jacques-Marie.
Product images feature the piece as a sculpture. It can be displayed both horizontal and vertical. Please note: If the sconce is hung vertically, the hardware box will be visible from the side.
Opening in the back for lighting: 2 1/4” x 4 1/4"
Materials: Clay, UL-certified LED light insert
Can be displayed as a sculpture or installed as a sconce using the included hardwire kit. Please note if installed as a sconce, the hardwire may be slightly visible as each piece is unique.

Simone Bodmer-Turner
Based in Brooklyn, New York, Simone’s emotive and intuitive work crosses the spectrum of creative materials from ceramic to plaster and found materials to craft objects, vases, sculpture, lighting, and furniture. The resulting pieces function as both home décor and priceless abstract works of art.
